Village Giving Manager, DaVita
Born and raised in Durango, Colorado, D.J. Close is a proud fourth-generation Colorado native.
D.J. has a deep passion for civic engagement and believes the greatest impact occurs when private, public, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations engage together with the purpose of achieving a common goal.
D.J. graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Political Science and Leadership. Following Graduation, he was accepted into El Pomar Foundation’s Fellowship where he ran community stewardship programs and supported the Foundations statewide grant making process.
After developing a passion for civic engagement, D.J. worked in the office of Colorado Lt. Governor Joseph Garcia and led a statewide listening tour for private, public, philanthropic and non-profit leaders to explore successful literacy practices and build a community coalition dedicated to improving third grade literacy rates. He then joined the team at Mile High United Way where he was responsible for replicating, sustaining and expanding the highly successful Minnesota Reading Corps Program in Colorado. From 2013 to 2015, D.J. cultivated the Colorado Reading Corps to over 75 full-time AmeriCorps Literacy Tutors, partnering with multiple school districts in the Metro Denver area and Weld County.
D.J. is now the Village Giving Manager at DaVita where he is responsible for fostering key community partnerships in Colorado where DaVita is headquartered, along with focused corporate giving. He oversees DaVita’s community engagement and annual corporate giving campaign consisting of more than 73,000 teammates, nationally.
Community Relations Manager | Managing Director, Janus Henderson Foundation
As Managing Director of the Janus Henderson Foundation and Community Relations Manager for Janus Henderson Investors, Demesha serves as a champion for community engagement programs and provides leadership and strategic support for the corporate diversity and community outreach initiatives.
In her role, she actively develops global corporate wide community employee engagement opportunities and fosters the 12 diversity & inclusion employee resource groups. Demesha invests time collaborating outside of Janus Henderson with non-profit organizations such as INROADS, Cherry Creek Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement and Stonewall. She has served as chair for B:CIVIC (Business Committed to Investing & Volunteering in the Community) and she is currently on the Board of Directors for Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Studio and is on the Advisory Council for Colorado Succeeds.
Prior to joining in 2001, Demesha held multiple leadership roles in various industries. She earned a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal and holds a Certificate in Corporate Citizenship Practice.
